Kylea shares her week
Week 6: My First Speech and Swearing In
From being sworn in to delivering my first parliamentary speech, what a week it has been!
On Tuesday, I was officially sworn in as a member of parliament alongside my fellow Independents Allegra Spender, Kate Chaney, Dr Sophie Scamps, Dai Le, Dr Monique Ryan, Zoe Daniel and Zali Steggall. I could not be prouder to be counted among this formidable group of women, as part of an extraordinary and history-making crossbench.
Then on Wednesday, I had the incredible honour of addressing the 47th Parliament of Australia in my first speech as your federal representative. It was a surreal experience, being able to share my story and to describe North Sydney in our own terms.
Our community is vibrant and diverse. Ambitious and compassionate. We value reason, consensus and integrity. And we will use our voice and our vote to help build a better Australia with the changes we want to see.
You can watch a video of my first speech here. Thank you to all who travelled to Canberra to support me and to all who watched from afar. North Sydney, I am forever grateful for your support, and I won't let you down.

Week 21: What we're doing to strengthen the Anti-Corruption Bill
Our democracy will only ever be as strong as our willingness as citizens to actively contribute to any debate, and just on six months into this role, the capacity for me to truly listen to the many voices of North Sydney as they discuss proposed or needed legislative reform at the national level is without a doubt the most rewarding thing I get to do on a daily basis.
