Reducing Power Bills for Renters
Kylea has signed a crossbench joint letter to the Hon Chris Bowen MP, Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Senator The Hon Jenny McAllister, Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy, and The Hon Dr Jim Chalmers MP, Treasurer. The letter outlines two policies that would help reduce power bills for renters, as cost of living pressures grow with retail electricity tariffs for households rising by more than 20% on average at the beginning of July.
Kylea and her fellow crossbenchers are calling for (1) a tax incentive for landlords to replace gas appliances with more efficient electrical alternatives; and (2) a tax simplification to make it easier for people in apartments to access rooftop solar.
