Kylea shares her week
Week 7: Passing of the Climate Change Bill
This week, I used North Sydney's voice to strengthen transparency and accountability requirements in the Climate Change Bill, and our vote to enable the amended bill to pass through the Lower House.
The Climate Change Bill will now progress to the Senate for further debate and a vote.
While I know there is much more to be done to meet our climate ambitions and secure a safer future for our children, I believe this is the step in the right direction we’ve all been waiting for.
My decision to support the passage of the bill was not taken lightly and was made in consultation with science and industry experts, environmental groups, medical professionals, households, emergency services volunteers, and many others in our community.
Of the over 450 North Sydney residents who responded to my request for feedback last week, over 96% were in favour of supporting the legislation. Many of you described the bill as a "first step" that should enable further improvements in the future. I hear you, and I will continue to advocate on your behalf for the faster, more ambitious climate action that we in North Sydney want to see.
Also this week, I seconded the Ending Indefinite and Arbitrary Immigration Detention Bill that was put forward by the Member for Clark, Andrew Wilkie MP, and spoke of the need to provide a welcoming, secure and respectful environment for refugees in Australia as a Matter of Public Importance.
Thank you all again for your continued support and feedback. With my first two Parliamentary Sitting Weeks now over, I'm heading home. I look forward to seeing you back in our electorate soon!

Week 21: What we're doing to strengthen the Anti-Corruption Bill
Our democracy will only ever be as strong as our willingness as citizens to actively contribute to any debate, and just on six months into this role, the capacity for me to truly listen to the many voices of North Sydney as they discuss proposed or needed legislative reform at the national level is without a doubt the most rewarding thing I get to do on a daily basis.
