Kylea shares her week
Week 30: My plan for cleaner, cheaper transport
This week, I announced my plan to bring to Parliament a Cheaper, Cleaner Transport Bill to reduce pollution from our cars. I've consulted extensively with policy, industry experts and consumer groups to develop this plan, which will align Australia with international standards, and bring us a little closer to meeting our emissions reduction goals.
Believe it or not, Australia is currently the only country in the OECD with no vehicle efficiency standards. This impacts our car industry and our community in two ways. Firstly, we are stuck using some of the dirtiest fuels in the world, containing 10x more cancerous sulphur than those used in Europe and Japan. Secondly, carmakers have opted not to bring newer, more efficient models to Australia, turning our country into what one car manufacturing exec described as a "dumping ground" for old cars.
As a mechanic's daughter, I find it truly concerning that our fuel emission standards are so far behind global standards. As a business leader, I am excited about the opportunities that a Cheaper, Cleaner Transport Bill presents. Better, cleaner fuel could save Australians hundreds of dollars a year in petrol costs, reduce health risks - particularly in high-traffic areas like ours - and help bring down our carbon emissions.
Thirty-six days to the election, North Sydney. I'm making them count. I hope you have a happy, restful long weekend, and look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail!

Week 22: The National Anti-Corruption Commission Bill Passes the House
With just one sitting week remaining for Parliament in 2022, the past week in Canberra has definitely been full of robust debate, constructive discussion and ultimately some landmark legislative developments.
Week 21: What we're doing to strengthen the Anti-Corruption Bill
Our democracy will only ever be as strong as our willingness as citizens to actively contribute to any debate, and just on six months into this role, the capacity for me to truly listen to the many voices of North Sydney as they discuss proposed or needed legislative reform at the national level is without a doubt the most rewarding thing I get to do on a daily basis.
