North Sydney Independent MP Kylea Tink has backed calls for work to be halted on a controversial freeway upgrade, amid ongoing community anger over the loss of hundreds of trees on Sydney’s north shore.
Tink said work should be suspended on the Western Harbour Tunnel and Warringah Freeway Upgrade, which has already resulted in the removal of more than 750 trees in Cammeray Park and along the freeway.
She also backed calls from North Sydney Council for no contracts or federal funding for the road projects before the 2023 state election.
Tink repeated her concerns about the freeway upgrade at a public meeting in North Sydney on Saturday attended by almost 100 residents. One banner attached to a tree read: “What took three hours to cut down took 30 years to grow”.
