Mayor Zoe Baker has indicated she would support a proposal by newly elected North Sydney MP, Kylea Tink, to rename the federal electorate. Earlier this month, Ms Tink put forward the proposition to rename her electorate of North Sydney to Cammeraygal, in recognition of the Cammeraygal tribe - the traditional owners of the region.

Mayor Baker agrees that a name change will make it easier to clearly identify the electorate, since the majority of the federal seat falls outside of the North Sydney local government area.

According to Ms Tink, changing the name will also address voter confusion from parts of the electorate which have little affiliation with the suburb of North Sydney. "To me it's nonsensical to have a federal seat named after one suburb contained within it," Ms Tink said.

It is believed Ms Tink will seek the community's views before proceeding with the proposal and is open to any alternative names suggested by residents.
