Week 101: This week in the electorate office
Kylea with the 2024 Australian Winter Olympians last week. |
With Parliament in winter recess, it’s been good to focus on local issues and supporting people across the electorate. Whether it’s dealing with complex Centrelink cases or lending a hand on visa battles, our incredible constituency team have assisted with over 8000 local issues so far during the 47th Parliament – all with just a team of two people! Talk about small but mighty. This week in the Electorate Office, the team covered a broad range of case work brought forward by constituents. The workload is always diverse, and this week was no exception. We helped community members deal with a variety of issues, including tracking down outstanding Jobseeker claims and helping small business owners deal with the fallout of being hacked. Not to mention organising birthday letters to celebrate our amazing centenarians! Although the process of triaging and responding to the volume of requests can sometimes feel like drinking from a fire hydrant, the work is important and rewarding, and we love a challenge. We always encourage North Sydney constituents to get in touch if you ever find yourself struggling to navigate a federal service like Centrelink, immigration services or the tax office, or have other issues you’d like to discuss. You can email us at [email protected] or call the office on 9929 9822. Additionally, on Wednesday 17th July, I will be updating the community in more detail about the most recent parliamentary sitting fortnight. Please join us by registering here. Now that the AEC submission window has closed, I’d like to thank you all again for your support and efforts to preserve the seat of North Sydney, and proving that no matter the result, as a community we are stronger than ever. The petition remains live, so please continue signing and sharing – every voice counts! - KT |

SHARE YOUR FEEDBACK ON AEC BOUNDARIES
Thank you to all who have written in about the Australian Electoral Commission's (AEC) proposal to abolish our Federal Seat of North Sydney in the next election. The draft plan detaches the residents of Northbridge from those of Naremburn; St Leonards from Crows Nest; Greenwich from Wollstonecraft; and Chatswood's CBD from its state schools. Like many others, I fear that our sense of community and social cohesion will be lost in the boundary redistribution and will be submitting an objection to the AEC accordingly. Ultimately, electoral boundaries aren't about me — they're about you. My team has heard from residents who are concerned about being moved into a different electorate from their sports facilities, schools, and community groups. And we want to know more: If your group is likely to be negatively impacted by the proposed redistribution, please get in touch. |
